for Freedom
"Once you learn to read you will be forever free."
- Frederick Douglass, Abolitionist Leader and Lifelong literacy
advocate.
Trumpet for Freedom: The Life of Frederick Douglass
with Tony Thompson, actor and director of Metropolitan Diversity
Theater, will be performed on Saturday, February 12 at 2 pm
at North Regional/BCC Library. Sponsored by the Broward Public
Library Foundation as part of the American Heritage Series,
the Literacy Coalition of Broward County and the Friends of
North Regional/BCC Library.

Annual Taste of the World International Festival
Join us on Saturday, February 19 from 1 to 3:30 pm for a
taste of the world. Experience international food, music,
dancing, and crafts. The event will be held at West Regional
Library, 8601 West Broward Blvd., Plantation. For more information,

Margate
Rededication Ceremony
Join us on Friday, February 25 at 10 am at the Margate Catharine
Young Branch for a rededication ceremony. The branch is reopening
after a complete renovation and expansion adding 5,000 square
feet for a total of 15,000 square feet. In addition, the library
has new furnishings, fixtures, and shelving. It has also added
new computer stations and enlarged the parking lot. The branch
is located at 5810 Park Drive, Margate.

Portraits
at gallery six
A beautiful collection of paintings by Alan Dayton will be
on display from February 5 to March 5 in gallery six on the
sixth floor of the Main Library. The paintings are of noted
contemporary artists from literary, visual, musical, and dance
professions. The opening reception will be held on February
10 from 7 to 9 pm.

Children's
Reading Festival 2005
This year's Children's Reading Festival will take place on
Saturday, April 16 from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday, April 17
from noon to 5 pm. The theme is Once Upon a Fairy Tale...A
tribute to Hans Christian Andersen.
The featured performers include Storyteller Antonio Rocha,
Jim from The Animal Band, and That Puppet Guy Lee Bryan.
