Dedication Ceremony - Hallandale Beach Branch Children's Section
Join us for the Dedication Ceremony of the Children's Section of the Hallandale Beach Branch on Friday, January 21 at 10:00 am.
The Dedication of the Children's Section is in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Lanner who so generously volunteered for many years and presented countless programs for children at the branch. Mr. Lanner served on the Broward County Library Advisory Board for numerous years and he and Mrs. Lanner served as board members for the Friends of the Hallandale Beach Branch Library.

Broward etutor offers free online homework help to students
in grade 4 through the first year of college. This service
is available at all Broward County Library locations. Plus
this service is available from any computer with Internet
access. For access outside of the Library, you will need your
Broward County Library card number.
Broward etutor is available seven days a week from 2 pm to
10 pm. The subjects include math, science, social studies,
and English.
Additionally, for assistance by Spanish speaking tutors in
math and science, the service is available Sunday through
Thursday from 2 pm to 10 pm.

Bukishi
Bukishi: The Concepts of Knowledge in
African Art and Exhibition of 100 Works of Power and Beauty
will be on display from January 7 to March 30 at the African-American
Research Library and Cultural Center located at 2650 Sistrunk
Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.
The opening reception will be held on Friday, February 4
from 6 - 8 pm at the African-American Research Library and

Friends of Broward
County Libraries
The Friends of Broward County Libraries is an "umbrella"
organization of 25 local chapters. The Friends have been instrumental
in the growth of the library system since 1975. The umbrella
group brings together the leaders of local Friends groups
at meetings at the county, state and federal level and helps
to sustain county, state and federal funding for the library
system. Monthly meetings of the umbrella group provide opportunities
for Friends to share successful ideas and plan for the future.
Advocacy efforts of board members include participation in
Library Days in Tallahassee and trips to Washington while
Congress is in session. The Executive Board is comprised of
individuals from local chapters and members at large help
to guide and support the Friends. They are available as a
resource to the local chapters. Membership dues for the systemwide
Friends of Broward County Libraries is $10 annually. For more

African-American Reseach Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC)
on National Public Radio
National Public Radio featured the AARLCC in its broadcast
of Day to Day on December 15, 2004. The commentator,
Ari Shapiro, strongly recommended to the new board of the
Smithsonian National African-American Museum in Washington,
D.C. that if a model is needed, they have one in our African-American

Literary Feast 2005
The following lineup of stellar authors will join us for
Literary Feast the weekend of March 11-12. They will participate
in the three component events of Literary Feast, which is
being sponsored for the fourth year by Nova Southeastern University.
- Novel Day for Students, where authors speak with students
at area high schools
- Night of Literary Feast, where authors meet guests at
a fund-raising cocktail reception at the Main Library followed
by a series of elegant dinners in homes throughout Broward
County
- The free Day of Literary Lectures, where authors will
speak on panels at Nova Southeastern University's Alvin
Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center

Book Signing with Author E. Robert Dunn
E. Robert Dunn is the author of a science fiction thriller

New Online Reference Resources Are Just a Click Away
A dozen new online reference resources have been added for
2005. They are available on our Online
Resources web page, featuring a total of more than
60 databases on a variety of subjects. Remote access is available
using your Broward County Library card. New databases this
year include resources on choosing a career or college, state
and federal government sites, poetry, science, and a new Spanish
language encyclopedia.

Imperial Point Branch Library Rededication Ceremony
A rededication ceremony for the Imperial Point Branch Library
was held Wednesday, December 8 at 10 am. The library was closed
several months for renovations that are part of the $139.9
million library bond issue approved by Broward County voters
in 1999. Improvements include a new ADA restroom and computers,
a new learning services center and group study room, new lighting
system, enlarged youth services area and the refurbishing
of all public areas.
