Journey through the Imagination of Jules
Verne
If you haven't seen the Journey through
the Imagination of Jules Verne exhibit at Broward
County's Main Library, what are you waiting for? This exhibit,
from the French city of Amiens Metropole, has never been seen
in the Unites States before. It was originally assembled by
Piero Gondolo Della Riva, one of the world's foremost collectors
of Jules Verne items.
The extraordinary exhibit contains personal
artifacts, including original manuscripts and posters, Verne's
model of Captain Nemo's Nautilus, and other one-of-a-kind
memorabilia.

Discuss the Nautilus
Explore the history, technology and literature
of the development of the submarine and Jules Verne's most
famous creation, the Nautilus. Attend the discussion
on Wednesday, January 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the
6th floor Bienes Center of the Main Library, 100 South Andrews
Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. For more information, please call

Literary Tea
Florida Center for the Book and Dr. Robert
Watson will present a Literary Tea on Tuesday, January 24
at 2:00 p.m. Attendees will converse on the topic of Women
and Politics. The event will be held in gallery 6 of the Main
Library, 100 South Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.

Celebrate Diversity Month

Enjoy multi-ethnic programs at Broward County
Library. Chisseko Kondowe will perform three programs of Passport
to Africa, a family program on East African culture:
January 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at
the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center,

Watch a production of Untold Stories
that explores the lives of four women from different backgrounds
who find themselves homeless in America on January 21 at 7:30

Literary Feast 2006
The 19th annual Literary Feast will be held
on February 24 and 25, featuring more than 20 authors who
will meet the public in a series of events. On Friday, February
24, the Night of Literary Feasts will kick-off with a cocktail
reception at the Main Library and then continue with elegant
dinners in homes throughout Broward County. To purchase tickets,

On Saturday, February 25, attend the free
Day of Literary Lectures at the Alvin Sherman Library, Research,
and Information Technology Center at Nova Southeastern University.

Building Information:
The Davie/Cooper City Branch Library, a one-story building
with 10,000 square feet, opened in 1982. It was remodeled
in 2003 by the architecture firm Frimet Design Associates
and the construction firm D. Stephenson Construction, Inc.
The renovation cost was $390,000 and was budgeted through
the 1999 Library Bond issue.
