Happy Birthday America!
The Fourth of July - it's the day we celebrate
the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and it traditionally
means fireworks, fun and the American Flag. If you want to
show your patriotic side, make sure you know the do's and
don'ts for displaying our flag. Take these tips from Congress'
flag code and you'll be flying Old Glory the right way.
The flag should be displayed only from sunrise
to sunset - if it must fly at night, make sure its properly
illuminated.
Don't let the flag touch the ground.
Rain? Unless you're flag is an all-weather
version, don't fly it during bad weather.
The U.S. flag should always be in the center
and at the highest point when a group of flags of states,
localities, or organizations are displayed. And remember,
if flags of two or more nations are displayed together they
should be flown from separate staffs of the same height. International
usage prohibits the display of the flag of one nation over
another during peace time.
Flags displayed on cars or trucks should be
attached to either the vehicle's chassis or the right fender.
It shouldn't be flown from the antennae or displayed as a
stick-on decal.
Don't use the flag as clothing, on clothing
or as part of a costume. The only exceptions - military personnel,
firemen, policemen and patriotic organizations.

Two Libraries Open in One Month!
The Hollywood Branch, which opened June 8,
2006, offers customers a 100,000-item collection, 56 public
use computers, a wireless hotspot, three tutoring rooms, storytelling
room and 30,000 square feet. Located at 2600 Hollywood Boulevard,
the new branch replaces the original smaller location, which
was originally built in 1959.

The new North Lauderdale Saraniero Branch,
opened on June 24. The 20,000 square foot structure offers
expanded hours - six days instead of five. The additional
space also allows for more programming for adults, teens and
children, and young library customers will have rooms for
group study, tutoring, storytelling and programming.

Both new libraries were funded by the 1999
Library Bond Issue, in which Broward County voters elected
to earmark $139 million to build new branches and refurbish
and renew older locations.
