Libraries at Top of Customer Survey

A recent scientifically designed and implemented 2006 Broward County Resident Survey (www.broward.org/efficiency) conducted by ETC Institute shows that BCL provides a high level of effective service to the people of Broward County.

The survey consisted of a random sample of 1,600 households in Broward County. It was administered by mail and phone and was conducted during March 2006. As part of the survey, Broward County was "benchmarked" and compared to 25 other communities, including such cities and counties as Denver, Fairfax County (Virginia) Houston, Indianapolis, Miami-Dade, Minneapolis, San Antonio, San Diego County and St. Louis County, among others.

In ranking Overall Satisfaction with Various Services Provided by Broward County, Libraries ranked second overall, with 81% of the survey respondents indicating that they were satisfied or very satisfied with our services (behind only Fire Rescue Services).

Related to specific questions about library services, respondents by percentage (satisfied to very satisfied) indicated that:

How close libraries are located to your home (81%)
Helpfulness of library staff (80%)
Availability of the materials you need (75%)
The hours that libraries are open (75%)
Adequacy of on-line information (73%)
Quality and quantity of children's programs (66%)

The Overall Satisfaction rate with BCL compared to the Large U.S. Average for libraries was 82% compared to the national average of 74%.

Under the Customer Service section of the survey, respondents indicating that they had "recently contacted" BCL reported that:

87% found it easy to contact us (highest rank of all services ranked)
78% were satisfied or very satisfied with the way they were treated (highest rank)
74% were satisfied with the accuracy of the information provided (highest rank)
69% were satisfied with how quickly staff responded to their need (highest rank of all services ranked)
