Online Resources Troubleshooting Tips

Entering your Information

  1. Be sure to type "D" before your library-card number, if not already printed on your card (Typed with NO spaces, e.g., D0123456789).
  2. Be sure to enter your last name only, not your first and last names.
  3. Be sure to enter your last 4 digits of your phone number.

Clear your cache or temporary Internet files and try again.Use the Help function of your browser for instructions specific to your set-up. Tip: Internet Explorer calls them Temporary Internet Files. Netscape uses the term "cache."

Things to Check
Once you enter your library-card number, last name, and last 4 digits of the phone number on our WebCheck page, are you being asked for a second password? Various security settings on your computer may be preventing access.

Firewall Software
If you have personal firewall software, temporarily disable it and try accessing the library database again. If you can procced WITHOUT being asked for a second password, you need to change the settings in the firewall software. (See your firewall documentation for instructions)

  • This may include disabling the Browser privacy settings within your firewall also (See your firewall documentation for instructions to disable).
  • If you have personal firewall software or are behind a firewall, your settings MUST allow for cookies.
  • Also ensure that referring URLs are allowed. Referring URLs allow the database vendor to recognize you as an Broward County Public Library user.

Grolier

America the Beautiful
Encyclopedia Americana
Nueva Enciclopedia Cumbre en línea

These are recommendations, not the minimum requirements. Anything lower would provide a poor user experience using Grolier Online features.

For PC:
We recommend Pentium II processor with 128 MB of RAM with Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating system. We recommend using the following browsers: IE 6.0 and higher, Netscape 7.0 and higher, and Firefox 1.0 and higher. We also recommend using 15-inch monitor with the resolution set at 1024 x 768 for best viewing (will operate fine at 800 x 600) with high 16-bit colors, or higher selected.

For Mac: We recommend running under system 9.x or better on a PowerMac or higher. Best displayed on a monitor of 15-inch with resolution set at 1024 x 768 for best viewing (will operate fine at 800 x 600) with "thousands of colors" selected. We recommend using the following browsers: Safari 1.0 and higher, Netscape 7.0 and higher, and Firefox 1.0 and higher.
